ASSEMBLY REPRESENTATIVES

Los Angeles County

FIND YOUR LOCAL LOS ANGELES COUNTY

ASSEMBLY REPRESENTATIVES

It’s important to be familiar with the Los Angeles Assembly Representatives in your district.
This is the first step in knowing who to contact for laws and issues that affect your community.

Locate your district on the map and then find the Assembly Representative on the menu below. If you lose your place on the map, refresh your browser.

The Mayor, Karen Bass oversees activities and services for Los Angeles. She makes sure the city’s laws are carried out and is responsible for submitting a yearly budget proposal to the City Council. The mayor appoints a police chief who is approved by the City Council and the Police Commission.

The Los Angeles City Council is made up of 15 elected full-time representatives. Each Council Member oversees activities and services for their district. They also create laws for the city. The council members elect a president. Paul Krekorian was elected in 2022.

There are numerous agencies and departments in Los Angeles. (see link) The Mayor often appoints a commissioner to oversee them. Hydee Feldstein Soto is the elected City Attorney who advises the Mayor, the City Council, and all the other departments, boards, and agencies.

There are 88 cities within Los Angeles County. Each city has its own Mayor and City Council. Los Angeles is the largest City in Los Angeles County. Los Angeles also has its own Charter (Link)

Los Angeles County is the largest in the United States. The county is divided into 5 districts and each district has 1 elected official who sits on the  Board of Supervisors. Janice Hahn is the current Chair of the Board of Supervisors. Other elected county officials include the Sheriff, District Attorney, and Assessor. Like the City Council, the County Supervisors oversee many departments and services.  For more information, www.bos.lacounty.gov

The California State Legislature has two houses, the Senate and the Assembly. There are 40 Senators and 80 Assembly Members. To find your California district and representatives go to www.findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov

The United States Congress also has two houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives. California has two Senators, Dianne Feinstein and Alex Padilla. Your House Representative will depend on your district.

So, if you live in the City of Los Angeles, you will have many elected officials who represent your interests. There will be your city and county representatives. You also have representatives who vote in the California legislature, and lastly elected officials in Congress which presides in Washington DC. It can be confusing who to contact when you’d like to express an opinion. It might be helpful to follow some of the links above and see who all your representatives are to start. It’s also important to find out which committees they participate in or what projects they are involved with. That information is often on their websites.
